Legal 500 2010

We are one of the few legal firms in Scotland with a dedicated sports law unit and we were one of the first to set up such a unit. Over the years we have built up an excellent understanding of the pressures and issues that face individual athletes, sports clubs, organisations and administrators. Our sports law unit brings together lawyers with a broad range of legal expertise and experience from all specialisms across the firm.

We can advise on the purchase of new facilities, representation at disciplinary hearings and in court cases, the revision or interpretation of club and association constitutions, trademark protection, contracts and tax issues, employment disputes and claims arising from injuries.

We are also experienced in negotiating book deals, merchandise and contracts, sponsorship agreements and the protection of personal image rights as well as issues relating to charitable status of some sports associations.

Our clients come from a wide range of sporting disciplines including Football, Rugby, Golf, Judo, Gymnastics, Curling Boxing, Athletics, Tennis, Cycling, Ice-skating, Lacrosse, Fencing, Skiing and Water Skiing.  Our clients include individual sports men and women, sports clubs and national governing bodies.

The knowledge gained from our involvement in sports management and governance can be crucial in maximising  achievement for business involved with sport and sports men and women.

We have experience in resolving sporting disputes, both domestically and internationally. We have appeared in sporting matters before the Scottish Courts and arbitrations tribunals and disciplinary committees.

For disciplinary matters including representation or revision of rules and procedures and court cases please contact John Kerr.
