Keith Bishop

Keith is a partner in our Construction & Engineering and projects team.

He has been involved in construction law since 1991 and joined us from DLA where he was a partner in the construction group.

Keith acts for employers, both public and private sector, funders, contractors, subcontractors and consultants in the construction industry. He advises on construction procurement strategy, the drafting of building contracts, professional appointments and collateral warranties. This involves guiding clients through the tender evaluation process where necessary.

Keith is an experienced litigator and has wide experience of litigation, in both the Court of Session and the Sheriff Court, arbitration and other methods of dispute resolution including a number of mediations, adjudications and expert determinations. Keith has been appointed as an expert to determine disputes and has acted as an adjudicator.

Keith studied construction law at London University. He is dual qualificated in support of his increasing work with colleagues on property and construction projects subject to English law.

He is a recognised 'leader in their field' by Law Directory Chambers UK 2012 for Construction (Scotland) and has also been accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Construction Law having been one of the first lawyers accredited in 1999 reflecting his dual expertise in both procurement and disputes.

Keith regularly speaks to clients at industry seminars, lunches and at conferences on issues affecting construction law.

 

 

Keith’s experience includes:

 •  Acted in multi-million pound Harvey Nichols development in 
    Edinburgh.
•  Advised on and drafted a utilities diversion infrastructure contract
    for a project in Edinburgh.
•  Acted for a local authority in multi-million pound leisure centre
   disputes.
•  Acted for a specialist sub-contractor in a claim against SPV
   following Edinburgh schools PFI.
•  Led the Anderson Strathern team in the recent ground breaking
   decision Operon v Pihl in the Court of Session.
•  Advised an employer on the two stage procurement of a £15m
   medical research and development facility.
•  Advising a developer on major infrastructure works and
   construction procurement for a mixed use development,
•  Advised on Aberdeen schools PPP.
•  Advising Edinburgh Napier University on the redevelopment of
   their sighthill campus.
•  Advising Glasgow School of Art on garnethill redevelopment, 
   phase 1.

 

Keith has also been accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in Professional Negligence, and is an accredited Mediator.
