Alastair McKie

Alastair is a partner and head of Planning and Environment.

He is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in planning law and has been elected as a legal associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute. He sits on the Law Society of Scotland’s planning law sub-committee and is a member of the Planning Development Group of the Scottish Property Federation.

Alastair has extensive experience in town and country planning, compulsory purchase, environmental work, transport and legal agreements. He also specialises in inquiry advocacy.

He has a profile case load and acts regularly as an inquiry advocate. He led our cross-departmental legal team which won the coveted title ‘Specialist Client Team of the Year 2006’ for advice on advocacy in relation to the Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine Railway and Improvements Act 2004.

Alastair acts regularly on behalf of developers, promoters, the Scottish Government, public authorities and objectors.

He adds particular strengths to our land resources department and acts regularly on planning and environmental matters for The Buccleuch Estate, Roxburghe Estate, Dumfries Estate and Douglas & Angus Estate.

He is a frequent speaker on the conference circuit and has been involved in offering comment and lecturing in relation to the new Planning Act. He chaired and gave a paper at the first national conference on restriction of permitted development rights for telecommunication developments.

He has also appeared on BBC “Newsnight” on two occasions in connection with planning law.
