Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility underpins our philosophy, our strategy and how we implement our business operations.

We set ourselves high ethical standards in how we do business and abide by the rigorous standards set by the Law Society of Scotland.

Investors in People
We are strong advocates of Investors in People.

Since 1998 Anderson Strathern has been recognised as an Investor in People to encourage our staff to make the most of their potential and be as effective as possible in their delivery of service to our clients.

In Novemebr 2011 we were accredited with IIP Gold Status.  This award not only places Anderson Strathern within the ranks of the1% UK companies that have achieved Investors in People Gold Status, it puts the firm clearly at the top of the Scottish legal profession as the only Gold accredited law firm in Scotland.

Integrated Management System
We have established an Integrated Management System which sets out clear policies in support of our commitment –

 - to have socially responsible and family friendly policies promoting equality and diversity against discrimination extending beyond our staff to clients, contractors, and the public.
- to reduce risk and promote health & safety and
- to set policies and targets to reduce our impact on the environment,

Our adherence to all these policies which include a commitment to continuous improvement are externally monitored in terms of our accreditation respectively to the international standards ISO 9001(Quality); OHSAS18001 (Health & Safety) and ISO14001 (Environment). Few organisations in the UK have these triple accreditations as well as IIP.

Helping our community
In the community we encourage and support staff to participate through an annual allowance to engage in CSR activities. Participation is voluntary but with around 350 staff the firm has made the commitment to make over 3000 hours available.

We work closely with Scottish Business in the Community to establish a portfolio of opportunities which are a good “fit” with Anderson Strathern. The best “fit“ occasionally means a donation to a particular initiative, or making our skills or premises available in a good cause. Indeed some activities are specifically chosen to give participants the opportunity to develop skills which may be useful in their career.

Many partners and staff give their time serving as charity trustees and doing work “pro bono” as well as fundraising through sponsored sporting events and book sales.

Corporate Social Responsibility is fundamental to how we operate in the workplace, in the market place, in the community and in the environment.
